BIO

Zainudin Bachok was born in Kota Tinggi, Johor. His first degree is Fisheries Science from University of Agriculture Malaysia (1993). After three years research experiences at Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC), Malaysia, he continue his studies for Japanese Language and Culture Program at Osaka University of Foreign Studies (1997), Master of Science (2000 – Marine Ecology) and Doctor of Philosophy (2006 – Marine and Environmental Science) at University of the Ryukyus, Okinawa, Japan.

Zainudin was appointed as Deputy Director of INOS, UMT in 2008 for five years. Then, he serves as a Chairman of B. Sc. (Marine Biology) program (2013 – 2015) and a Deputy Dean (Talent and Research, 2013 – 2016) at School of Marine and Environmental Science (PPSMS), UMT. As an academician, beside teaching Zainudin has supervise postgraduate students, led research projects from various sources of funding and disseminate research finding through academic publication.

Zainudin is a member for International Society of Reef Studies and Aquatic Ecosystem Health and Management Society. Nationally, he has involved in a strategic planning in coral reef studies in Malaysia when he was appointed as an Expert Group by Marine Park authorities and Minsitry of Science, Technology and Innovation Malaysia.

Zainudin currently heading the Coral Ecology Research Program at INOS, UMT. The program examines the tropic level and connectivity of critical ecosystem at South China Sea and evaluate environmental disturbances at species and population level.
