BIO
Dr. Mohd Safuan Che Din is currently working as a lecturer at the Institute of Oceanography and Environment (INOS), Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT). He obtained his Ph.D. from INOS-UMT in 2022, with a field of study focused on coral reef ecology. He began his research career as a post-doctoral researcher at the Centre for Ocean Governance (COG), INOS-UMT in 2021, where he was involved in ocean governance research by bridging science with management using the Marine Spatial Planning concept. He now works full-time as a lecturer and researcher in INOS-UMT, actively involved in research related to coral reefs and ecosystem-based management. As a young lecturer in the institute, Dr. Safuan’s academic accomplishments have been recognized through several national/international scientific awards, 8 research grants as main and co-researcher, and 25 peer-reviewed publications. Additionally, he has been involved in various national research projects, particularly from the Department of Fisheries, Malaysia and Sarawak Forestry Corporation. Dr. Safuan is also actively involved in consultancy activities for oil and gas companies such as Shell Sarawak Berhad and Petronas.
