BIO
Dr. Faizah Aplop received the Honours degree in Information System Management from Faculty of Information Studies, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) in 2001. She received the Master degree in Information Technology from Faculty of Information Technology and Quantative Sciences at the same university in 2007. She then completed her Ph.D in Computer Science (Bioinformatics) from Concordia University, Montreal, Canada in 2016. Currently, she is the member of Institute of Oceanography and Environment (INOS), Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), Terengganu, Malaysia. Her research interests include Bioinformatics, Genomics, Transcriptomics, metabolic network reconstructions, and machine learning. Her current work is focusing on sea turtle conservation efforts under Sea Turtle Research Unit (SEATRU), led by Associate Prof. Dr. Mohd Uzair Rusli.
Involvement in several research projects under IOC/WESTPAC has allowed Dr. Mohd Fadzil to establish regional networks and lead the Upwelling research group, which consists of regional experts focusing on gathering valuable information about upwelling sites within the South China Sea. Currently, he is leading a major research project between Malaysia and China, known as the Ocean Forecasting System (OFS) for the South China Sea. Through this project, his team has developed MFAST (Malaysia Marine Forecast) to provide open-access forecasts for the industry and the community. He has recently been awarded the highest-ranking national grant scheme, a Long-Term Research Grant (LRGS), to conduct research on Ocean Climate Change. The project will focus on assessing the long-term impacts of climate change on ocean processes and productivity in Malaysian waters.
