BIO
Dr. Siti Aminah Ibrahim is a Postdoctoral Scholar at Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), specialising in coastal and estuarine pollution, with a focus on microplastics and associated chemical contaminants. Her research integrates field-based ecological surveys with laboratory analyses, including μ-FTIR spectroscopy for polymer characterisation and LC–MS/MS for detecting organic and endocrine-disrupting compounds. She has examined the occurrence, trophic transfer, and ecological impacts of microplastics in benthic and intertidal organisms, as well as the health and biodiversity of mangrove and estuarine ecosystems.
Her involvement in collaborative research projects across Malaysia, Japan, and Germany has enabled her to develop interdisciplinary approaches that link organism-level responses to ecosystem-scale processes. Currently, she leads studies on microplastics and chemical contaminants in coastal ecosystems, aiming to understand pollutant dynamics, bioaccumulation, and their effects on ecosystem health. Dr Aminah’s research vision is to generate actionable knowledge and information as a fundamental to support sustainable coastal management and evidence-based conservation strategies.
