ENGAGING PUBLIC WITH OCEAN FORECASTING SYSTEM

Dear All,

We are pleased to inform that the call for participants for the Ocean Decade Laboratories Satellite Activities (Laboratory 2: “A Predicted Ocean”): Engaging Public with the Ocean Forecasting System (OFS) organized by the Institute of Oceanography and Environment, Universiti Malaysia Terengganu, Malaysia and the First Institute of Oceanography, China to take place online on 16 September 2021, 10.00 am (UTC+8).

Summary:

Ocean forecasts are scientific predictions about the future state of the ocean, offering critical information such as ocean currents, waves, wind, and temperature, all of which are important for supporting climate, operational marine activities, biodiversity, and the blue economy. This workshop will provide participants with hands-on experience getting ocean forecast products using an easy-to-use ocean forecast website. The emphasis will be on presenting fundamental knowledge about what is OFS and what data, and information can be acquired from ocean forecasts, as well as how to obtain and visualize them. It will be a combination of practical and theoretical components.

The course is designed to provide an introduction to OFS, as well as an exploration of the OFS website and hands-on experience with visualizing ocean forecast products.

  2. Ability to obtain and visualize ocean forecast products.
